Conyers FORCED to Stand Up for His Own Principles

John Conyers (D-MI) has been posturing as a representitive that actually represents "the People" for at least 4 years now. He consistently takes up the pledge and rhetoric of impeachment and consistently drops the ball or stands quietly on the sidelines as others drop the ball for the "gipper".

After more than two months of trying to schedule a brief meeting with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) to deliver VFP's 23,000 impeachment signatures, we politely informed the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, in writing, that we would drop by his Washington office with them. And we would sit there until he met with us or hauled us off in handcuffs.

On June 10 VFP issued a news release explaining our intention to call on Conyers the following day. Coincidentally (!) the morning of the 11th, his scheduler called asking, "I hear you're in town today, would you like to meet with the Congressman?"

Bush's trip raised only $500,000. It probably cost the taxpayers at least that much, if not more, in security for him, between the number of local police and overtime; federal security; helicopters, air force one, pilots, delays at the airport, the horrible mess caused by shutting down the interstate between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Add up the lost time for all of the taxpayers sitting in traffic and not being able to be productive anywhere else (the doctors were waiting for the patients at the doctor's office when I got there, and the waiting room was empty---cool, right?), and who knows how much his little fundraising party actually cost. It would have been cheaper to just write John Kennedy a check from the federal coffers for $500,000, and save us all the time and aggravation of being stuck in traffic for an extra hour just so the almighty could come to a fundraiser.

In 1971, a courageous group of veterans exposed the criminal nature of the Vietnam War in an event called Winter Soldier. Once again, we will demand that the voices of veterans are heard.

Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.

The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

On the 3rd Anniversary of the 2nd Iraq War, Iraq veterans clearly spell out the problems with words and song. Words by Camilo Mejia and Michael Blake; song by VOICE.

The Walkin' to New Orleans March started Tuesday the 14th of March in Mobile, Alabama and concluded on Sunday the 19th; with an Anniversary Anti-War Rally in Congo Square, New Orleans.

The marchers were war veterans from many wars and hurricane survivors from the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricane season who wished to draw attention to the cause and effect of having a currupt, profiteering government.

Saturday several vets from the March took the day off from walking to join with the Arabi Wrecking Krewe to gut and clear debris from a fellow veterans' home in New Orleans. The Arabi Wrecking Krewe is an all volunter house gutting team founded by vets. They donate their time to help Jazz Musicians and veterns return to their homes.

The uncredited musician at the end is Charlie Anderson ... sorry Charlie.
