The Rhizome Collective is a consensus-run 501c3 nonprofit organization that has operated a center for community organizing and urban sustainability in an East Austin warehouse since 2000. This warehouse was inspected on March 3rd by officials from the Building and Standards Commission of the City of Austin. On Thursday, March 5th The Code Enforcement Division of The City of Austin delivered a letter outlining a list of code violations to the Collective. The City mandated that the residents and organizations based in the warehouse must vacate before March 16th. The Collective is looking into all options, but is preparing to vacate the warehouse by the deadline. Before this inspection, the Collective was in negotiations to buy the warehouse from its current owner.

NYU Students Revoke the Property Destruction Clause

Last night at 10 pm, NYU students barricaded themselves into a cafeteria in the student center and refused to leave until the administration met their demands. The students are seeking much more transparency, stabilized tuition and socially responsible investment among other things (details at takebacknyu.com). Although NYPD took up positions inside and outside the building, the NYU administration up until now declined to force the students to leave.

Today, a couple of dozen more students rushed into join their comrades in the cafeteria, bolstering their numbers and morale. An hour later the students broke through some doors onto a balcony to take over more space. Previously, the students had taken a formal stance against violence and against property destruction. Apparently they changed their minds when they decided to enter the balcony, writing on their website, "in the interest of tactical flexibility, we have chosen to revoke the property destruction clause of this statement."

In a remarkable use of social media, you can follow along with events from inside the student occupation at a live blog and on live streaming video.

I-Witness Video was on the scene last night and will continue to monitor events periodically.

A Common Ground Mole?

DOWNLOAD

Common Ground Relief co-founder Brandon Darby wore wires for the FBI.
Article 1, Article 2, Brandon's Confession

I have a lot of thoughts about this revelation. Most importantly: Was Brandon a Common Ground Mole or get the job later? AND if he was a Common Ground mole: Why would the FBI infiltrate a grassroots humanitarian organization whose main purpose was to help the Hurricane victims of Katrina? AND since the FBI was fully aware of the vigilante whites randomly shooting black people on the streets post Katrina... why did they allow that to continue?

The saga of the NOmadjik Media Bus at the Republican National Convention played out among context that will sadden anyone who believes in freedom and democracy. The RNC in St. Paul was an exercise in intimidation, harassment and preemptive arrest of JOURNALISTS.

Political Conventions Ate My Constitution and All I Got Was This Stupid Head Wound

Download iPod
A video report on the protests that occurred in connection with the Democrat and Republican National Conventions, Ground Noise & Static is a manifesto. We went to Denver and St. Paul to take the pulse of the movement. Corporate media would cover the platitudes and posturing of the politicians, we were interested in something else, a story hidden in plain sight, captured in the now-classic street chant, “This is what democracy looks like.”

Ground Noise & Static is a joint effort of Franklin López of subMedia.TV and PepperSpray Productions. It is the direct result of a wonderful collaboration with many indymedia-style activists and journalists who all pitched in for the common good and success of their various efforts to tell their “Unconventional” stories.

Unwritten Future: RNC Police State Tactics

.mp4, HiRes Download available for free
(2008) A documentary that looks into the events during the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul, MN.

Footage contains excessive use of force and questionable tactics used by police toward activists. It also includes interviews with citizens, asking them what they are fighting for.

This documentary is strictly for educational purposes only and should never be sold. The footage contains graphic state terrorism of its own people and some adult language.

The footage used in this documentary was shot mainly by independent, non-profit, and volunteer citizens that have risked much to bring you this uncensored look into the Republican National Convention. Thanks to all of you that fight for truth.

Presidential Debates are Rigged

This is a clip from the film AN UNREASONABLE MAN
===========================================

From answers.com:
"Though the commission [on Presidential Debates] is meant to sound like a official government arm, it is actually a private entity, funded entirely by corporate contributions from companies like AT&T, IBM, Philip Morris, and others."

To this day, even after shutting out Ralph Nader, the COMMISSION ON PRESIDENTAL DEBATES is still rigged by former Republicans and former Democrats.

RNC Shame of Democracy

9/1 Protests at the RNC. The atmosphere in St. Paul is best described as a war zone. This video attempts to show some of why people are protesting. Reporters from the AP, NY Post, Indy Media Center, Pepper Spray Productions and 3 producers from Democracy Now have been arrested, including Amy Goodman.

This afternoon the bus was repeatedly harassed by St. Paul police. We were notified by our lawyers who were on the scene while we were attempting to cover the Poor People's March. Eyewitnesses reported that they attempted to open the door both by hand and CROW BAR. They attempted to film inside the bus and claimed they were concerned about "liquids". Our bus is legally parked in a paid lot with permission from the Parking lot. 2 private buses have been confiscated in St. Paul 1 bus carrying a marching band of activists have chosen to leave town. The police came by 3 times each time with more squad cars and equipment. At this time the bus, inhabitants and property are safe... and insecure. Much more about this later.
