Kroll Associates announces signing of agreement with former New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton and The Bratton Group LLC
New York, Nov. 2 - Kroll Associates today announced that it has signed an agreement with former New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton and The Bratton Group LLC, to provide public safety-focused administration, training and operational re-engineering and analysis consulting services to Kroll's clients worldwide. Mr. Bratton will work closely with Jerome M. Hauer, head of Kroll's newly formed Crisis and Consequence Management Group, which was created to provide corporations, government entities, police departments and other public safety agencies worldwide with crisis planning, training and on-site crisis response and mitigation. Mr. Bratton and Mr. Hauer worked closely together in the Administration of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani where Mr. Hauer served as the first Director of the newly created Mayor's Office of Emergency Management while Mr. Bratton was Police Commissioner.
Michael Cherkasky, President of Kroll Associates said, "I am delighted with our new relationship with Bill Bratton and The Bratton Group. It will significantly augment Kroll's growing franchise in worldwide public safety expertise. Bill's proven leadership and innovative management capabilities and successes have made him a world-renowned leader in the public safety and law enforcement arena. His unparalleled experience will give Kroll a singular competitive advantage in providing best-in-class services around the world. Bill's reforms and crime reduction in the five police departments that he headed - most notably in Boston and New York City, and his now famous Compstat police management system are emblematic of what Kroll will begin to offer worldwide. The synergy created by the joining of Bill Bratton and Jerry Hauer, and their collective expertise and reputations uniquely positions Kroll to greatly expand its private and public safety crime and crisis mitigation business opportunities."
"We are pleased and excited to join forces with Kroll Associates, the most valued and respected name in the security services industry," said Mr. Bratton. "Kroll and its clients are fortunate to have a singular collection of the very best and most talented individuals in the security services arena. This is an outstanding opportunity for our two firms to combine our respective expertise in order to greatly expand the service offerings to the government and public safety sector. We look forward to working with the entire Kroll team, and in particular, Jerry Hauer."
Mr. Bratton began his career in Boston as a police officer in 1970, rising by 1980 to Superintendent of Police, the highest sworn rank in the Boston Police Department. During the period 1983 to 1996 he managed five police agencies, accomplishing major reforms in each department as well as significant declines in crime. He served as Chief of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Police (1983-1986), Superintendent of the Massachusetts Metropolitan District Commission Police (1986-1990), and won national acclaim for his crime reduction efforts and leadership of the New York City Transit Police (1990-1991). He returned to Boston in 1992 as Superintendent in Chief and was named Commissioner in 1993. In 1994 he was appointed New York City Police Commissioner. During his twenty seven-month tenure, serious crime declined an unprecedented 39% and homicides by almost 50%.
Mr. Bratton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston State College and is a graduate of the FBI National Executive Institution. He was a Senior Executive Fellow at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government in 1987 and was one of the police leaders chosen to attend the National Executive Session On Policing at the Kennedy School beginning in 1988. He was appointed a Research Fellow at the Kennedy School in 1996. During the period 1993-1995 he was President of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a national organisation of progressive police executives. Among his many other honours and distinctions, Mr. Bratton holds the Schroeder Brothers Medal, the Boston Police Department's highest award for valour, which he earned by facing down a bank robber and rescuing a hostage in 1975.
Mr. Bratton serves on the Board of Directors for the Rite Aid, Firearms Training Systems (FATS), and SmartCop corporations. In addition he serves on the Board of the Washington D.C. based advocacy group, "Fight Crime - Invest in Kids," and is a member of the Board of Directors of "The Partnership for a Drug Free America". He is the co-author of a critically acclaimed autobiography, "Turnaround", published by Random House.
